Post Race Recovery - Buy VAM, Aminolite, Tripart Injection, Kynoselen
The first thing you should do after your horse has raced or after strenuous exercice is to feed him a lactic acid neutralizer such as Neutradex or similar. This will also make the horse thirsty so it will start drinking within 45 min after administration. Repeat the Neutradex treatment after 12-15 hours ie in the morning the day after the race.
Secondly you want to stop inflammatory processes in the joints/tendons/muscles. Administer an anti-inflammatory drug such as flunixin or phenylbutazone 10 cc i.v. along with a short acting corticosteroid: Dexamethasone or Prednisolone as soon as you can after the race. You can mix the anti-inflammatory drug with the cortisone. An idea is also to "jug" the horse som sodium hyaluronate 3 cc of a 1% solution should be suffient. Repeat the morning after the race. Apply a phenylbutazone/DMSO ointment around the joints and the tendons. You could use DMSO alone if you like but you will have a better effect with the bute.
To give the horse a bit of help with the recovery you should consider administer B-Vitamins, C-vitamin, Aminoacids and Minerals. Give the horse 40 cc of a b-vitamin complex along with 50-100 cc Aminolite, 10 cc C-vitamin and 20 cc VAM Injection. All these should be given separatly via slow i.v. injection. We also recommend a Kynoselen or a Tripart injection.
If you follow these guidelines you should have a much sounder horse the day after the race than you would have if you did nothing. You have helped the horse to stay sound.
Lastly if the horse is exited long after a race you should consider giving him some mildly sedating medicine such as Ace or Robaxin. It helps the horse with recovery if it can come to rest soon after a strenuous exercice.
